Aviemore Adventure - The Sequel
Eight Probus members headed north to the Highlands on Sunday, 31 May, for an overnight stay in Nethy Bridge and two rounds of golf at Grantown-on-Spey.
The Grantown course was nothing short of magnificent. Tree-lined fairways, immaculate greens and stunning Highland scenery combined to provide a memorable golfing experience. The weather was kind to us too, with only a brief shower arriving well into the round.
A highlight of the day came at the 7th hole, where we encountered “Bobby Cruickshank”, a local golfing legend from a bygone era.
After golf, we made our way to the Nethybridge Hotel, where excellent Highland hospitality awaited. Good food, fine wine and great company provided the perfect conclusion to a thoroughly enjoyable day.
Monday morning, however, brought a different story. Heavy rain greeted us at breakfast and, after due consideration, the group reluctantly decided to abandon the second round. While disappointing, it did little to dampen spirits after such an enjoyable outing.
With only one round completed, the prizes were awarded on the Sunday scores:
· Stableford Winner: Mike Stevenson – 35 points (BIH)
· Runner-Up: Ron Wylie – 35 points
· Taming the 3s: Bob Hutchison
· Fighting the 400s: Roddie McLean
· Winning Team: Ron’s Rebels
All in all, it was an excellent trip, enjoyed by everyone, and one that is certainly worthy of a return visit next year.
